Puerto Rico--Day 9

Wow, has it really been that long already?

Lazy day today. John went to work and we rattled around the condo while it rained this morning, then went swimming in the afternoon until Squig decided to stop swimming and sit by the pool and the flies got after her (she was just fine in the water, I guess they don't like chlorine!) By that time the dark menacing clouds were rolling in anyway, so we came back to the condo and about five minutes later the rain started with a vengeance. We got back just in time.

Hanging around the condo during the rain turns out to be more boring than I thought. I have plenty of reading and knitting, and Squig has plenty of reading, writing and texting, but Sam and Ruby seem to get bored quickly. They'll start a game and get tired of it quickly. Sam's a little better at entertaining himself, he spent about 20 minutes this morning hitting a tennis ball with a palm leaf before the rain started, but Ruby goes out of her way to pester her brother and sister when she gets bored. We brought crayons and new coloring books and play-doh and dolls and construction paper and scissors and glue sticks and books and games and who knows what else to keep busy with. We did bring the Wii along, and I might have to get it out and set it up sooner than I wanted to. The next couple of days are supposed to be mostly rainy, but after that we should have some nice mornings for going to the beach.

While the kids were swimming, I messed around with my camera. Here are Ruby and Sam by the pool in the vibrant color setting.

For dinner tonight, we met up with John's friend Rafa and his wife Wilma. Two of the nicest people you'll ever meet. If you play in the The Apple Pie Fantasy Baseball League, Rafa is the manager of the Puerto Rico Dodgers. He's a big sports fan and all of his travel plans include taking in a game at the local sports venue. He and his wife will be traveling to New York soon and will be attending three baseball games between New York and Toronto plus a trip to Cooperstown. Big sports fan. Wilma, not so much. He says that's why they're the perfect couple.

We had a nice time chatting and eating together. They had some suggestions on things to see and do and they laughed when I asked them about the Chinese restaurants. Apparently, people here just like Chinese food and it's different than what we're used to, the portions are huge, and it's really good. So, we'll definitely try it while we're here!

This is John and Rafa.

And here are Rafa and Wilma.

They're planning a trip to California sometime next year and we look forward to showing them around a bit! And since he's a Dodgers/Yankees fan, we'll also try to convert him :)

  1. Admission: we had Chinese food in Paris and Rome last summer. More than once. And we had it in Prague, too.

Chinese food is everywhere because it's delicious!!
